The story behind

A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

The 11cm depth on such a small bag makes it look chunky in a way I love. It came with the lock set, felt, copy of the receipt and the certificate so I felt fine about it. Only complaint is I am scared to actually use it and it mostly sits in the dustbag.
