Named after the African country, reflecting the "Africa" theme of the year it was created (1997). Togo is a grained leather made from baby calf skin. It is extremely popular due to its scratch resistance and ability to hold its shape.

The story behind

A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

I use this one for weekends and keep my older etoupe for work so neither gets hammered. Togo at 25 is still surprisingly heavy for its size and after a long day holding it in the crook of my arm I feel it. The palladium stays spotless as long as I wipe the plaque.

The booklet, felt, receipt and lock set were all in the box. Corners untouched, obviously, it is a 2025.
