Named after the African country, reflecting the "Africa" theme of the year it was created (1997). Togo is a grained leather made from baby calf skin. It is extremely popular due to its scratch resistance and ability to hold its shape.

The story behind
A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

Same etoupe I already knew and loved, just bigger. 30 with 15cm of depth is a proper day bag.

This was my entry into Hermès and honestly it's still the one I use most. The canvas does pick up dirt, especially where it rubs against my coat, but Vache Hunter ages beautifully and mine has gone a shade darker at the corners already. Palladium keeps it casual.

I nearly bought the regular Constance and I am glad I did not. The Elan at 25 long looks better on me because I am tall and the shorter one looked stubby. Etoupe with rose gold has turned out more useful than I assumed, it sits fine with brown and black both.
