The story behind

A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

    The envers construction makes the whole bag softer than a normal 35. It sags in a way I actually wanted.

    Toile H in ecru with black Volupto trim is such a clean combination, and the inside out construction means the seams sit differently so it doesn't look like every other Birkin. It's a 35 and 18 deep so it takes everything, but the canvas worries me around dark denim. Palladium keeps it cool and low key.
