These are the most precious and exclusive exotic leathers used by Hermès. Porosus crocodile and Niloticus crocodile feature symmetrical scales and come in shiny (Lisse) or matte finishes. Alligator comes from the Mississippi river and is renowned for its larger scales and intense color depth.

The story behind

A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

Colvert is that deep teal blue green and having it in both shiny and matte porosus on one bag is the most extra thing I own.

I keep it in the felt and the dust bag inside the box and I still check on it more often than is reasonable. Crocodile makes me anxious.
