Ostrich skin is a precious leather identifiable by its follicles, from which feathers grow. Hermès flattens these follicles and triples the skin to create a material with a unique, two-tone appearance.

The story behind

Launched in 1967, the Constance bag - named after the creator’s daughter - gives its shape to the line of wallets revealing the ingenious H-shaped clasp: the central bar lifts up and releases the flap to open it. Perfect day-to-day companions, depending on their design, these wallets with contemporary features can be slipped into your bag, carried on the shoulder or worn as a belt.

    Red ostrich with gold is about as bold as a mini gets. The quill bumps catch light and it reads almost like textured velvet from a distance.

I had a canvas Garden Party for years and this leather version is a different proposition entirely. Smaller at 23, holds its shape better, and the deep red with palladium looks sharper than I expected. It's an open tote though so I don't put anything valuable at the top.
