Named after the English "Box" tanning technique, Box calfskin is the oldest leather in the Hermès catalog. It has a highly polished, glossy finish and a structured hand.

First appeared in the collections: 1920s

Appearance: Smooth and glossy with a long, fine grain

Change over time: Sensitive to scratches; develops a beautiful satiny patina

The story behind

Created in the 1930s, the Kelly bag was named in 1956 when Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco unveiled it to the world. Its shape and iconic details have since been adapted and redesigned to create small leather goods. Straps, claps, padlocks, leather bells and keys enhance wallets, coin purses or pouches that can be worn in many different ways.

    Sent it for a conditioning treatment after two years of hand carrying it daily, the SA said the box calf was aging really well for how much I use it.

    9.5 of depth so it holds a phone, a slim wallet, keys and lip balm. Anything soft has to be folded.

Palladium hardware on an argent bag means it is tonal all the way through, which is what I wanted after years of high contrast bags. The mini is 4.5 deep so you learn what fits fast. Phone, two cards, a lipstick. The mirror came with it and lives inside permanently.
