These are the most precious and exclusive exotic leathers used by Hermès. Porosus crocodile and Niloticus crocodile feature symmetrical scales and come in shiny (Lisse) or matte finishes. Alligator comes from the Mississippi river and is renowned for its larger scales and intense color depth.

The story behind

Created in the 1930s, the Kelly bag was named in 1956 when Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco unveiled it to the world. Its shape and iconic details have since been adapted and redesigned to create small leather goods. Straps, claps, padlocks, leather bells and keys enhance wallets, coin purses or pouches that can be worn in many different ways.

Only the dust bag, lock set and CITES certificate came with it. No box, no rain cover, which on something this delicate I would have wanted. I store it flat in the dust bag and check the scales every couple of months like a worrier.

Crocodile scales on a 28 sellier are big and dramatic. On a smaller bag you would not read the pattern the same way.
