These are the most precious and exclusive exotic leathers used by Hermès. Porosus crocodile and Niloticus crocodile feature symmetrical scales and come in shiny (Lisse) or matte finishes. Alligator comes from the Mississippi river and is renowned for its larger scales and intense color depth.

The story behind

Created in the 1930s, the Kelly bag was named in 1956 when Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco unveiled it to the world. Its shape and iconic details have since been adapted and redesigned to create small leather goods. Straps, claps, padlocks, leather bells and keys enhance wallets, coin purses or pouches that can be worn in many different ways.

Navy porosus in a sellier 35 from 1970 and it is in better shape than bags a third its age. The scales are tight, the gold hardware has gone slightly soft in colour, and the shape is still sharp.

I inherited a taste for old Kellys from my grandmother and this is the closest I've come to hers. Croc from this era has bigger scales than modern stock, you notice it immediately. I don't carry it often but I take it out of the dustbag more than I'd admit.

35 sellier is a big flat bag. 12 deep so it's wide rather than roomy. Papers, a folder, phone, wallet.
