Named in tribute to the daughter of the designer who introduced it into the collections, this leather was developed for luggage and is the ultimate example of a grained leather that has been drummed. This process softens the skin and brings a generous grain to the surface.

The story behind

Originally created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a 'Sac à dépêches', the bag achieved legendary status in 1956 when Grace Kelly, the Princess of Monaco, used it to shield her pregnancy from paparazzi. Hermès subsequently renamed the bag the 'Kelly'.

    I bought this to wear on my back for city trips and it has been brilliant. Mykonos is a strong bright blue and Clemence keeps it matte so it doesn't look plastic. Gold hardware on this blue is warmer than palladium would be, which I like. It came in the box with just a dustbag and felt, no receipt, but the condition was excellent.

    It's a backpack with a Kelly flap, which is a slightly odd idea that completely works. 22 by 23 so it's taller than it is wide.
