Named after Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels, to highlight its resemblance to the now-discontinued Gulliver calfskin. Swift is a fine, semi-smooth leather that absorbs dye beautifully, resulting in radiant colors.

The story behind

Originally created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a 'Sac à dépêches', the bag achieved legendary status in 1956 when Grace Kelly, the Princess of Monaco, used it to shield her pregnancy from paparazzi. Hermès subsequently renamed the bag the 'Kelly'.

22 wide but only 7.5 deep so it takes a phone, a card case and a thin pouch. Not a day bag.

Swift in etoupe is buttery and I am terrified of it. Got caught in a drizzle outside the office and dabbed at it the whole train ride home. It dried fine. The Danse shape is still the most useful Kelly I own, I wear it across the body and both hands stay free.
