This leather is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Barenia. It features a minuscule printed grain that replicates a drummed grain, combining the patina of Barenia with a textured finish.

First appeared in the collections: 2016

Appearance: Matt, minuscule printed grain

Change over time: Acquires a beautiful patina and darkens with use

The story behind

Originally created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a 'Sac à dépêches', the bag achieved legendary status in 1956 when Grace Kelly, the Princess of Monaco, used it to shield her pregnancy from paparazzi. Hermès subsequently renamed the bag the 'Kelly'.

    I take it to meetings instead of a folio and people notice it quietly rather than loudly, which is the whole point for me. Barenia Faubourg is already darkening at the corners where my hand sits after about six months. Some people hate that, I think it's the best part.

I told myself for years that I would only buy neutrals and then this happened. Rose azalee is not subtle, it is a proper flower colour, and palladium keeps it from going sweet. I wear it with grey and navy mostly. Swift feels soft in the hand in a way Epsom never does.
