Named after Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels, to highlight its resemblance to the now-discontinued Gulliver calfskin. Swift is a fine, semi-smooth leather that absorbs dye beautifully, resulting in radiant colors.

The story behind

Originally created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a 'Sac à dépêches', the bag achieved legendary status in 1956 when Grace Kelly, the Princess of Monaco, used it to shield her pregnancy from paparazzi. Hermès subsequently renamed the bag the 'Kelly'.

Got it for my wedding anniversary and used it that same night. No strap so it's in the hand all evening, which sounds annoying but the depth means it doesn't feel like a flat envelope. Only came with the dustbag, receipt and felt, no box, which I'd have liked.

Etoupe Swift with gold hardware is warmer than the palladium version. Softer looking, and etoupe shifts grey or taupe depending on the room.
