Named after Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels, to highlight its resemblance to the now-discontinued Gulliver calfskin. Swift is a fine, semi-smooth leather that absorbs dye beautifully, resulting in radiant colors.

The story behind

Originally created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a 'Sac à dépêches', the bag achieved legendary status in 1956 when Grace Kelly, the Princess of Monaco, used it to shield her pregnancy from paparazzi. Hermès subsequently renamed the bag the 'Kelly'.

    Swift in noir has a soft matte finish that doesn't shine under lights, so the gold hardware is the only thing that catches. I like that balance.

    Took this to a work dinner and then straight to a friend's birthday and it did both jobs. It's hand carry only, no strap, so if you're the sort of person who needs both hands free at a party this will annoy you. It held my phone, a card holder, a lipstick and a hotel key. Swift does mark, mine has a faint scratch on the back already.
