Named after Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels, to highlight its resemblance to the now-discontinued Gulliver calfskin. Swift is a fine, semi-smooth leather that absorbs dye beautifully, resulting in radiant colors.

The story behind

A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

Biscuit is a beautiful pale tan and it is also a commitment. Swift marks if you breathe near it and mine picked up a scuff on the base within a month....More
Biscuit is a beautiful pale tan and it is also a commitment. Swift marks if you breathe near it and mine picked up a scuff on the base within a month. I still reach for it constantly because at 25 with 13cm of depth it does everything I need for a day out.

The In and Out lock sitting on the outside is the whole gimmick and I do like it. Biscuit Swift is creamier than it looks online.
