Named after Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels, to highlight its resemblance to the now-discontinued Gulliver calfskin. Swift is a fine, semi-smooth leather that absorbs dye beautifully, resulting in radiant colors.

The story behind

A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

The faubourg 20 is basically a little building on your arm and every panel is a different leather. Alligator, madame, sombrero, swift, all in one.

At 20 wide and 11 deep it holds a phone, a card case and lip balm. You are not carrying a day of stuff in this.
