Named after the English "Box" tanning technique, Box calfskin is the oldest leather in the Hermès catalog. It has a highly polished, glossy finish and a structured hand.

First appeared in the collections: 1920s

Appearance: Smooth and glossy with a long, fine grain

Feel: Polished and ultra-smooth

Hand: Firm and structured

Change over time: Sensitive to scratches; develops a beautiful satiny patina

The story behind

Designed in 1923 for top drivers and long-distance travelers, this globe-trotting bag slips easily into any trunk. The zip fastener, brought back from America by Émile Hermès at the end of the 1910s, give it its legendary round-angled shape, and allow for quick access to the content. The Bolide bag comes in a travel bag and many-sized handbags.

    Came with the padlock, clochette, strap and dustbag. The Box calf on the handles is already showing shine from use.

    I did not know what Vibrato was before I saw this and now I want everything made from it. The edges look almost like a book block. Chocolate Box calf ...More
    I did not know what Vibrato was before I saw this and now I want everything made from it. The edges look almost like a book block. Chocolate Box calf on the handles and base keeps it from looking like a craft project. At 31 it holds plenty and the zip top means nothing falls out.

    Vibrato is those layered leather stripes and up close the colours are all slightly different, no two panels the same.
