These are the most precious and exclusive exotic leathers used by Hermès. Porosus crocodile and Niloticus crocodile feature symmetrical scales and come in shiny (Lisse) or matte finishes. Alligator comes from the Mississippi river and is renowned for its larger scales and intense color depth.

Change over time: Develops a deep patina; shiny finish softens, while matte finish acquires a subtle glow

The story behind

Designed in 1923 for top drivers and long-distance travelers, this globe-trotting bag slips easily into any trunk. The zip fastener, brought back from America by Émile Hermès at the end of the 1910s, give it its legendary round-angled shape, and allow for quick access to the content. The Bolide bag comes in a travel bag and many-sized handbags.

I resisted the canvas Birkins for a long time thinking they'd look cheap next to a full leather one. They don't. The noir Swift trim is rich and the Toile H is tightly woven and matte. It's the version I take on planes now because a leather 25 gets heavy after a while.
