Ostrich skin is a precious leather identifiable by its follicles, from which feathers grow. Hermès flattens these follicles and triples the skin to create a material with a unique, two-tone appearance.

The story behind
Designed in 1923 for top drivers and long-distance travelers, this globe-trotting bag slips easily into any trunk. The zip fastener, brought back from America by Émile Hermès at the end of the 1910s, give it its legendary round-angled shape, and allow for quick access to the content. The Bolide bag comes in a travel bag and many-sized handbags.

Gris perle in ostrich is such a soft grey. The quill pattern is more visible than on darker skins.

18 by 13 by 8 makes it one of the smallest bags I own and yet it fits my phone, a card case, keys and a small perfume. Ostrich is more durable than people assume, though I do keep it away from water. Gold hardware warms up the grey nicely.

This was a special order so I braced myself for something loud and it came back the most sensible black bag I own. 19 wide, 12.5 tall, holds a phone, a card holder and a key. That's it. I carry a separate pouch for anything more and I've stopped resenting that.
