Lizard skin is a rare and precious exotic leather prized for its small, symmetrical scales and high-shine finish. Hermès uses Niloticus lizard from the Nile river.

Appearance: Fine, symmetrical scales with a glossy, glazed finish

Feel: Smooth and cool

Change over time: Requires care to prevent scales from drying; develops a deep gloss

The story behind

Created in the 1930s, the Kelly bag was named in 1956 when Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco unveiled it to the world. Its shape and iconic details have since been adapted and redesigned to create small leather goods. Straps, claps, padlocks, leather bells and keys enhance wallets, coin purses or pouches that can be worn in many different ways.

    Strap length works for me across the body and the palladium sits well with the black. I do wipe the hardware more than I'd like to admit.

    Black lizard has this fine scale pattern that you only clock up close, from across a room it just looks like a very neat black bag.
