The story behind

A chance encounter on a flight between Paris and London in 1984 sparked the creation of the Birkin. Actress Jane Birkin complained to Jean-Louis Dumas, the Executive Chairman of Hermès, about her struggle to find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother. Dumas immediately sketched a spacious, rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching, and the Birkin was born.

Chased this one down secondhand for ages since it is a 2012 special order and you do not see the etoupe kiwi combo often. Only came with a dust bag and lock set, no papers, but the brushed palladium is in great shape and the kiwi lining still looks brand new inside.

Brushed palladium is matte and it suits the etoupe. Polished would have been too sharp against something this soft in tone.
